A Traveling Photographer’s Must-Haves

As a traveling wedding photographer and full-time mom, I’ve learned that packing smart is everything. Whether I’m headed to a local wedding in Dallas or an elopement across Texas, having the right gear and essentials in my bag means I’m ready for anything—and can focus on capturing your story, not hunting for missing equipment.

Here’s a peek inside my camera bag and my top tips for packing like a pro when you’re on the move.

1. Keep It Light, But Never Leave Essentials Behind

Traveling with heavy gear is exhausting. I pack only what I need—my favorite lenses, reliable camera body, extra batteries, and memory cards. I always bring backups of everything because you never know when you’ll need a spare.

2. Protect Your Equipment with Quality Cases and Covers

I invest in padded, weather-resistant camera bags and lens cases. Whether it’s a sudden rainstorm or a bumpy car ride, good protection keeps my gear safe—and my mind at ease.

3. Bring Tools for Quick Fixes

A small cleaning kit, lens cloths, and a multi-tool can save the day. I also carry a portable charger for my phone, extra SD cards, and a backup hard drive to offload photos when possible.

4. Pack Smart for Comfort and Efficiency

I organize my bag with compartments for easy access during shoots. I use pouches for cables and smaller items, and I always have water, snacks, and sweets on hand—because long days need fuel!

5. Don’t Forget Personal Essentials

Camera gear isn’t the only thing you need on the road. I always pack lip balm, hair scrunchies, and a small snack—because staying comfortable and energized helps me focus on capturing every moment. I also like to keep a few “just-in-case” essentials on hand for clients—like a safety pin or stain remover—because little mishaps shouldn't get in the way of a great shoot.
